Abstract

A mushroom-shaped printed monopole antenna with simple in structure and low profile is designed in this paper. To obtained UWB characteristics here use the mushroom-shaped circular radiating patch and defective ground plane on the opposite side of the substrate. To increase the gain and the bandwidth a rectangular stub is added on the defective ground plane. To design the antenna Ansys HFSS software is utilized. The dimension of the antenna is 35×34.9×1.6 mm3 with 5.4% reduction in size compare to conventional design procedure. Commercially available low cost FR4- epoxy substrate is used here. The structure gives simulated impedance bandwidth (IBW) 8.5 GHz, ranges from of 3.1-11.5 GHz, fulfilling ultra-wideband (UWB) application standards (3.1-10.6 GHz) with a fractional bandwidth of 128.0 percent and a maximum simulated gain of 4.9 dBi
