Abstract
The author argues that the accession to the throne mentioned in a historical text about events during the rule of the Hittite king Mursili II (KBo 50.24+) refers to Haremhab (Arma'a), not Aya or Arnuwanda II. As a consequence of the synchronism Mursili's year 8 or 9 = Haremhab's year 1 the pharao whose death is recorded in the Deeds of Suppiluliuma most likely is Smenkhkare, not Tutankhamun or Akhenaten. He points out, in addition, that according to the omen tablet KUB 4.63 the much debated sun omen in Mursili II's tenth regnal year (KUB 14.4) should be interpreted as an eclipse indicating a threat to the king's life.
