Abstract

Exact three-dimensional quantum calculations of muon exchange between muonic hydrogen and carbon for collision energies in the range ${10}^{\ensuremath{-}3}--100\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{eV}$, are presented. Muon transfer rates at thermal and epithermal energies are calculated including partial waves up to $J=7$. The relative populations of the final states are also given. The results show that above $1\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{eV}$, the relative population of ${(\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{C})}_{n=5}^{5+}$ can reach up to 30%.
