Abstract

To overcome sustainability challenges, a joint effort from public management, the community and educational institutions is necessary. Actions such as the creation of a municipal sustainability plan, the implementation of public policies that encourage sustainable practices, investments in green infrastructure and the promotion of environmental education are essential examples to build a more prosperous and sustainable future for municipalities, in this way the The article aims to investigate known methods of improving the environment in cities, based on good practices applied in the classroom, even in basic education in the early stages. The methodology used to carry out this research refers to a bibliographic review of descriptive literature. The results indicate that environmental education in basic education schools promotes: awareness about environmental preservation, teaches children to protect the environment with a view to ensuring future generations, changes in students' attitudes towards nature and the construction of values fundamental social issues and a deep bond with the environment.
