Abstract

This paper presents a discussion of structural, functional, and diachronic aspects of multi-verb constructions in YurakarE, an unclassified language of central Bolivia. It sketches the morphosyntactic contours of the multi-verb construction in YurakarE in general. A section discusses each of the three subtypes of multi-verb constructions in more detail. The author regards multi-verb constructions from a functional point of view, as a device to indicate event integration. Finally, the paper concludes by summarizing structural, functional and diachronic aspects of multi-verb constructions in YurakarE, and comparing them to cross-linguistically recognized patterns. Keywords: central Bolivia; morphosyntactic contour; multi-verb constructions; YurakarE
