Abstract

A multiuser CDMA fiber-wireless system will experience all the following impairments: (1) nonlinear distortions in the optical channel; (2) multipath dispersion in the wireless channel; and (3) multiuser interference in the air interface. Optical and electrical noise will also be added in both channels. In addition, each user will experience individual multipath fading while the nonlinear distortion would be a function of total number of users in the system because nonlinear optical channel is shared among them. This chapter shows how all these impairments can be estimated and equalized using a very interesting iterative technique. This algorithm could add value for fourth generation (4G) wireless networks.
