Abstract

During the past decade, various two-dimensional magnetic recording (TDMR) systems have been considered or developed in order to achieve surface recording density of a few terabits or more per square inch for future promising magnetic recording technologies [1]. In most cases, an effective two-dimensional (2D) signal processing is expected to introduce these TDMR systems because originally these future recording technologies are suppose to make improvements to attain higher areal density towards 10Tb/in2[2]. In this research, a new signal processing scheme for a TDMR system using bit-patterned media (BPM) is proposed for future high areal density recording technologies. This proposed scheme is based on multitrack recording and simultaneous detection schemes for the bit-patterned media recording (BPMR).
