Abstract

The combination of the polarimetric information with time observations represents an extremely valuable tool for the different applications of polarimetric SAR images. One of the most important preprocessing steps in this context is speckle filtering. In this paper, a new method to multitemporal multidimensional (MTMD) speckle filter covariance matrices of polarimetric SAR data is presented. MTMD method is based on a temporal statistical criteria dependent on all elements of covariance matrix. The experimental results on Radarsat-2 fine-quad data show that the proposed method preserves radiometric resolution and reduces speckle. Also, we show that the our method has a better performance than the other filters such as boxcar and conventional multitemporal filter based on the equivalent number of looks.
