Abstract

Cognitive radio is an intelligent wireless communication system to meet the huge demands for radio spectrum. It identifies the available channels in the radio spectrum through a technique called spectrum sensing (SS) that sense the empty spectrum and share it to the secondary users, without harmful interference to primary users (PU). In order to find the locally available spectrum, the energy detection method estimates power spectral density (PSD) of the received signal. The multitaper spectral estimation based PSD has better performance over conventional periodogram based techniques. The goal of this paper is, to evaluate the performance of multitaper method (MTM) by considering overlapping of time series. The experiments show that the proposed method has a remarkable improvement in performance over conventional multitaper spectral estimation method with non overlapping time series.
