Abstract

The partially filled pipeflows encountered in building drainage systems belong to a family of unsteady flow problems capable of numerical solution via the method of characteristics. The defining equations in terms of flow depth, velocity and surface wave speed are developed and solved by a finite difference scheme. Applications to building drainage networks are demonstrated and full scale validation tests presented. An available computer model is described and demonstrated.
