Abstract

This paper presents two developments for electromagnetic band gap (EBG) antennas. EBG antennas are directive (about 30 dB) and very thin (about 1.5λ 0 ). They are constituted of alternatively stacked dielectric layers on a metallic plane. This periodic structure allows a great control of the radiated power. A feeding on the ground plane (in our case a patch antenna) excites the structure.
