Abstract

Advanced data processing and combination of different sensor arrays are expected to gain importance in the quality control and sorting of non-ferrous metallic scrap, as well as other recyclables, and increase its rate of automation. At the laboratories of Delft University of Technology, an on-line system was developed for multi-sensor quality control and sorting of bulk solids. It was especially developed for applications in recycling technology. Amongst other applications the system enables soiling of different aluminium alloys. This paper describes the architecture of the multi-sensor system, highlighting merits and problems of data processing and control.
