Abstract

Small bowel obstruction (SBO) is usually caused by mechanical obstruction or by irreversible changes in the normal position of the small bowel, with obstruction of bowel contents. According to the blood supply of the intestinal wall, SBO can be divided into simple and strangulated small bowel obstruction. Strangulated small bowel obstruction is one of the most serious acute abdominal diseases in general surgery. The most common aetiology is intraperitoneal adhesions.1,2 Delayed treatment can cause serious complications, such as peritonitis, intestinal perforation, infection, shock, and systemic failure.
