Abstract
Inverse problem in geophysics is usually described as global optimization. Multi‐scale Parameter Space Partition (MPSP) method developed in this work provides a deterministic global optimization scheme which divides definition space into sub‐domains. Each of these sub‐domains contains the same local optimal solutions. Local optimization method and efficient attraction field searching algorithms are combined to determine attraction basin near local solution at different scales. With the help of MPSP method, all local optimization solutions (sets) can be determined after finite times of parameter space partition, which prevents the redundant searching near the known local solutions. Numerical examples demonstrate the high efficiency, global searching ability, robustness and stability of this method.
