Abstract

ABSTRACT Selection of suitable parameter range is essential in joining dissimilar combinations joints when more than one number of influencing parameters are present in giving desired output. This paper discusses on combination joints of AA6082 and AA7075 that were joined with ER4043 filler wire using suitable input parameters obtained from Taguchi’s Method. The input parameters weld current, filler wire diameter and root gap were considered to design the experiments and output responses such as mechanical properties and bead geometry sizes were considered. For optimising the bead sizes and mechanical properties of weldments, an L9 array was used. Grey relational analysis was performed for optimising input parameters with multi-objective responses. ANOVA was performed to find the significance in effect of the welding parameters on dissimilar weldments. The analysis results of 8th trail was obtained as best performance set of values with main current at 210 A, filler wire diameter of 2.4 mm with a root gap at 2.0 mm. Results from ANOVA has shown that the welding current (36.75%) is affecting more on output responses followed by filler wire (35%) diameter and root gap (22%). Further, confirmation test was conducted for the optimum parameters and test results were validated.
