Abstract

Effects of chip resistor loading on the bandwidth and efficiency of a rectangular microstrip antenna (RMSA) have been investigated. A single chip-resistor-loaded RMSA gives broadband dual-frequency operation with broadside radiation. An RMSA with two chip resistors placed symmetrically about the feed point gives a conical radiation pattern besides being compact and broadband. The antennas have been analyzed using a multiport network model (MNM), followed by experimental verifications. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 24: 11–13, 2000.
