Abstract

A new approach, the multipole theory (MT) method based on the second order vector potential (SOVP) formulation, is presented for the computation of the simply connected three-dimensional (3-D) eddy current problem. It has proven that the MT solution based on the SOVP formulation automatically satisfies A *-Ψ formulation of the 3-D eddy current problem and the modified magnetic vector potential A * is unique. Representative computational examples, conducting sphere and conducting cube models, are given to validate the theory, and to demonstrate the accuracy and flexibility of the MT method. It has been shown that the results obtained by the MT method agree well with the accurate data reported in the literature.
