Abstract
The review of the energy evolution of average multiplicities of quark and gluon jets in the perturbative QCD is given. Higher order terms in the perturbative expansion of equations for the generating functions are found. First and second derivatives of average multiplicities are calculated. Gluon jets have larger mean multiplicity, and it evolves faster. It is shown which quantities are most sensitive to higher order perturbative and non-perturbative corrections. The energy regions, where the corrections to different quantities are important, are defined. The latest experimental data is discussed.
