Abstract
The multiplexing gain for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna for both multi-user and single-user MIMO and sum rate loss for MIMO antenna for multi-user MIMO are introduced. Several case studies for finding these new performance metrics of MIMO antennas are also discussed. The first three case studies are for three typical arrangements of antenna elements in MIMO wireless and their impact on the multiplexing gain and channel capacity loss for MIMO antenna. The fourth practical case study is for point-to-point or single-user MIMO employing highly compact MIMO antennas. The fifth practical case study is for multi-user MIMO uplink systems. The MIMO antenna for 5G mobile terminal is analyzed. Mobile terminal employed two antenna elements for the fifth case study. It is revealed that the MIMO performance is much better for the multi-user scenario as compared to the single-user MIMO case.
