Abstract

The Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems of the future might consist of local computer networks tied together through long haul links, using a packet-switching technique.[2, 3] This paper assesses fiber optic link characteristics as potential components of SCADA systems. Essentially, a fiber optic link is constrained to a simplex communication from transmitter to receiver. Such a simplex link is analyzed for its capability to convey baseband signaling and time-, frequency-, and spectral-division multiplexing.
