Abstract

• Repeating multiplex molecular syndromic respiratory viral panel testing rarely offers new, actionable clinical information. • Laboratory stewardship efforts are warranted to prevent unnecessary repeat syndromic testing in the diagnosis of respiratory viral illness. • The best predictor of novel viral illness detection by multiplex molecular syndromic respiratory viral panels is onset of new respiratory symptoms. • Repeat multiplex molecular syndromic respiratory viral panel testing motivated by new, lower respiratory specimen type rarely offers new, actionable clinical information.
