Abstract

In this essay, I introduce the concept of ‘multiple intimacy’ (multiple Vertrautheit) to migration research to achieve a deeper understanding and better analysis of migrant life-worlds. The concept sheds light on aspects of migrant exi-stence that have received little attention in migration research so far. This new term is derived from my field material on research with ‘Russian Germans’ in Germany. I describe the methodological and theoretical path that led me to this concept and present it as an effective analytical tool capable of doing justice to the description and analysis of the fluid transnational and translocal way of life of the ‘affected’.
