Abstract
In this paper, we propose multiple trellis coded unitary space-time modulation (MTC-USTM), where k/spl ges/2 unitary space-time (UST) signal blocks are assigned to a single branch in the trellis diagram. The optimal design criteria minimizing the pairwise error-event probability (PEP) as well as the bit error probability (BEP) and a systematic code design scheme satisfying all these criteria have been proposed. We demonstrate through simulations as well as theoretical analysis that MTC-USTM has a better BEP performance that that of the trellis coded unitary space-time modulation (TC-USTM) (single UST signal block per trellis branch) of the same information rate and number of states.
