Abstract

A novel multiple step size Perturb and Observe (P&O) Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm for fast changing weather conditions is proposed and discussed in this paper. Unlike the conventional P&O MPPT, the proposed algorithm operates with variable step size values for faster tracking and the algorithm maintains a constant duty cycle value at the maximum power point. The proposed algorithm is developed in MATLAB/Simulink and simulation is carried for various operating conditions. Performance of the proposed MPPT is analyzed by comparing the simulation results with the output of conventional P&O MPPT based system. The proposed MPPT has better tracking performance with improved accuracy and it has no oscillation around the MPP.
