A. Abstract A star of M = 7 M⊙ and 1!Hp = 0.5, with a helium-burning core and a hydrogen-burning shell source, is shown to permit three equilibrium solutions (i.e., solutions in hydrostatic and thermal equilibrium) over a certain range of core masses. Two of these solutions are secularly stable, while the third solution is unstable. This is shown both by an "evolutionary" stability test and by direct computation of the eigenvalues of the secular problem.
