Abstract

This brief shows how "multiple resonance networks" of any order and with many possible structures can be systematically designed using standard lossless impedance synthesis techniques. These networks are composed of linear lumped or distributed capacitors, inductors, and transformers, with a switch separating one of the capacitors from the remaining circuit. They have the property of transferring completely the energy initially stored in the capacitor insulated by the switch, to another, much smaller, capacitor in the circuit, through a linear transient when the switch is closed. These circuits find applications in the production of very high voltages for pulsed power systems.
