Abstract
The article discusses professional identity as a significant topic for studies of organization and management, noting that it may be more significant than organizational identity in many cases. Salient features distinguishing professional identity from other forms of identity are described. It is said that ideographic organization increases the chances of conflict between groups, and methods for dealing with such conflicts are mentioned. Divergent interpretations of professional identity within a group are also analyzed as a source of potential conflict.
