Abstract

In this paper we obtain the general analytical solution corresponding to the response of a reversible charge transfer reaction to the application of any sequence of potential steps to a static mercury drop electrode. This solution is applicable when the amalgamation takes place as well as when the product is soluble in the electrolytic solution, and independently of whether the redox couple diffusion coefficients are equal or not. The influence of amalgamation on the response corresponding to cyclic staircase voltammetry, stripping cyclic staircase voltammetry, cyclic square wave voltammetry and stripping cyclic square wave voltammetry is discussed.
