Abstract

The clinical aspects of multiple neurofibromatosis have been discussed briefly, with special emphasis on the oral manifestations of this disease. A case report is presented in which the oral lesions lead to the diagnosis of von Reckling-hausen's disease after biopsy and correlation with the general medical examination of the patient. A review of the literature on the oral lesions encountered in multiple neurofibromatosis is presented, which shows the polymorphous character of the oral manifestations involving the oral mucosa, maxillary bones, and nerves. Analysis of the statistical findings give a more objective appraisal of the frequency and distribution of oral lesions which, to this date, has nto bee emphasized in the literature.
