Abstract

This short paper aims to survey available multiple model adaptive control (MMAC) techniques and to propose a different methodology for the multiple model based approach for the control of a DC motor under load changes. Two general approaches in MMAC, namely, multiple fixed models and multiple adaptive models have been reviewed and a novel method, which is based on the linear combination of adaptive models with no switching, is proposed. The proposed method is tested for the servo control of a DC motor. Performance of classical indirect adaptive control, MMAC methods and the proposed methodology is compared under abrupt large parameter changes.
