Abstract
The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health has developed a Graduate Certificate in Public Health delivered over the Internet. Utilizing the World Wide Web and other electronic tools, students increase their knowledge and effectiveness in a rapidly changing health care arena without having to leave their environment for a prolonged period. The initial cohort of 36 students is geographically dispersed throughout the United States, Caribbean, and Central Africa. Students earn 35 graduate credits that can be applied toward the Master of Public Health. By September 1998, the School also will begin offering an Executive Master of Public Health via the Internet. To prepare faculty for the transition to electronic instruction the School has implemented an asynchronous training programme delivered over the Internet. This paper is divided into two parts: Training the Faculty and Applying Their Newfound Skills to Traditionally Taught Courses.
