Abstract

Magnetic properties of Mn-base alloys are obviously influenced by Mn-content. In this work, multiple magnetic transitions and anomalous magnetocaloric effect of an arc melting TbMn2 intermetallic compound were measured and discussed. TbMn2 shows paramagnetic properties at room temperature. The small bulge at ∼ 230.3 K suggests the rise of a Griffiths phase. The long-range ferromagnetic ordering is established at TC ∼ 60.0 K. The observed antiferromagnetic transition at TN ∼ 45.0 K is caused by the collapse of Mn moments. At ∼ 20.2 K, an unexpected spin reorientation transition is probably due to the arrangement of the sublattice of rare earth. The field induced metamagnetic transition below TN results in an anomalous magnetocaloric effect.
