Abstract

The isoenzymes of human serum cholinesterase have different molecular weights as determined by acrylamide-containing density-gradient ultracentrifugation. This method gives the following molecular weights for each isoenzyme: Che-1 82,000, Che-2 110,000, Che-3 170,000, Che-4 200,000, and Che-5 260,000. These results, together with the interconvertibility of the isoenzymes previously demonstrated, are compatible with the concept that the multiple forms of serum cholinesterase are molecular aggregates.
