Abstract

A fault detection (FD) algorithm for multiple device open circuit fault (OCF) in neutral-point-clamped(NPC) inverter is proposed in this paper. The present algorithm is based on the average current park vector (ACPV) method. The FD circuit proposed is independent of the load, only the three-phase output current of the converter is needed. The efficiency of this method has already been verified for OCF diagnosis in three-level inverter with only one faulty switch. This research extends the ACPV method for the diagnosis of multiple faulty switches in one phase leg for three-level NPC inverter. The method has been analyzed extensively and a signature table is proposed for three-level NPC considering all possible fault cases. The proposed signature table is verified using Matlab/Simulink software for the integration of a permanent magnet motor.
