Abstract

ABSTRACT Multiple Criteria Analysis and Integrated Impact Analysis This paper will give a concise review of multiple criteria methods in the context of integrated impact analysis. Integrated impact assessment serves to gauge all relevant effects of external stimuli in a coherent manner. Various methods of integrated effect analysis will be reviewed with a particular view on its use in a policy context. Next, it will be demonstrated that multiple criteria analysis may well serve the need for integrated policy analysis, based on a coherent and consistent impact assessment. A brief overview of some important classes of multiple criteria methods will be provided, based on the specific features of each method, on the nature and precision of the data available, and on the characteristics of the policy (impact) analysis at hand. Finally, an illustration of the typological approach adopted in the paper will be given on the basis of environmental policy evaluation.
