Abstract

WE PRESENT the case of a 68-year-old woman with a remote past diagnosis of possible multiple myeloma who presented with renal insufficiency, recent hip fracture, anemia, and a monoclonal protein detected on serum and urine electrophoresis. Monoclonal proteins in patients with multiple myeloma may cause renal disease in different ways, including, but not limited to, light chain cast nephropathy, light chain (AL) amyloid, or monoclonal immunoglobulin deposition disease. Renal biopsy determined an unusual cause of her renal insufficiency.
