Abstract

A16-year-old Caucasian boy presented himself with a sudden visual loss in his RE due to a pre-retinal haemorrhage involving the macula. A wide portion of the inferior retina ballooned into the vitreous cavity, extending from the temporal arcades to the ora serrata. Fundoscopy and B-scan ultrasound were compatible with pre-existing retinoschisis, combined with a limited area of probable full-thickness retinal detachment. X-linked retinoschisis was clinically suspected based on the presence of a circumscribed inner retinal elevation area in the inferior-temporal mid periphery of the fellow eye (siblings not available for examination because living outside the European borders).
