Abstract

Multiphoton ionization (MPI) of atoms by extra photons or so-called above threshold ionization (ATI) is the one-step ionization process when atomic electron absorbs more photons than energetically necessary for ionization. We investigate ATI theoretically and our approach is based first on the method of the Sturmian expansion of the transition matrix elements developed by us earlier for MPI of H by minimum number of photons.1 Secondly, as Sturmian expansion diverges in the case of ATI, the analytical continuation of the divergent part of the radial transition matrix elements is carried out using technique similar to that proposed for the case of two-photon ATI.2–4
