Abstract

The momentum-translation approximation has been used to calculate the bound-free transition amplitude in the $F$ center in the presence of an intense electromagnetic field. The calculation has been done by using both the point-ion-model wave function of Gourary and Adrian and the continuum-model wave function of Pekar. Numerical results have been given for the point-ion-model wave function of the $F$ center for various alkali halides. The transition amplitudes calculated by the two model wave functions have been compared. We have discussed how a multiphoton absorption experiment can be used to understand the nature of the wave function at large distances from the origin. The approximate perturbation-theory results are also given.
