Abstract

Automated Multiphasic Health Testing (Screening) and Services involves the screening of large numbers of asymptomatic individuals using highly automated instrumentation coupled with electronic data processing hardware. The facilities which are required must be designed to provide an environment which meets the health and safety standards normally associated with hospitals, and the special requirements of analytic laboratories and highly articulated assembly line operations. General guidelines for the development of the conceptual plan and for subsequent detailed planning are presented. The information given is based upon study of a number of AMHT Centers in the United States and includes analysis of such matters as new facilities versus renovation of existing buildings, flexibility versus rapid obsolescence, and the effect of flow routing schemes on layout.
