Abstract
Chaplains in clinical settings have to prove their competency in questions of clinical bioethics on three levels: in counselling patients and relatives, in cooperating with other professions within the organisational context, and through their engagement in teaching. The essay presents the experience of involvement of health care chaplaincy within the context of a university hospital in counselling patients and teaching med school students. It shows the necessity to focus on ethical competency of pastoral care staff within a multiprofessional context.
