Abstract

A mechanism for multiparticle production based on a two-component factorizable structure of the inclusive Pomeranchuk singularity is discussed. It is found that s-channel unitarity imposes restrictions on the detailed structure of the inclusive Pomeron. In fact, a hard component of the form (j - ..cap alpha../sub P/)/sup -//sup-lambda/, 3 > or = lambda > or = 1 is not allowed, although a softer structure of the form (j - ..cap alpha../sub P/)/sup -1/ ln(j - ..cap alpha../sub P/) is consistent with s-channel unitarity and leads through self-consistency to the condition ..cap alpha../sub P/ = 1. The consequences of this last model for multiparticle production are discussed and the physical content of the model is explored. (AIP)
