Abstract

With the widespread application of high voltage and high frequency capacitor charging power supply (CCPS), a new hybrid power control strategy (HPCS) is proposed to accelerate the charging speed. In order to limit the switching frequency regulation range of the HPCS, a Boost circuit is used to adjust the DC bus voltage for the LCC resonant CCPS. This new strategy makes the resonant circuit work in continuous current mode (CCM) for the initial charging stage and discontinuous current mode (DCM) for the later stage to realize the constant power charging. The relationships of the output power with the DC voltage and switching frequency are analyzed by the relevant mathematical models, and then a closed-loop hybrid power control system is built to adjust switching frequency and the DC bus voltage. Compared to the traditional control methods, the HPCS can obviously reduce the charging time (by nearly 50%). The MATLAB simulation and prototype experiments are implemented to validate the feasibility of this control strategy.
