Abstract

This work numerically studies the types of synchronization in multimode semiconductor lasers and compares the results with the ones obtained for the monomode case. A simple multimode model is used to describe the evolution of the envelope of the complex field E(t) and the carrier number N(t) of two unidirectionally coupled multimode semiconductor lasers. In this model the carriers are shared by all the active modes, while each mode has an equation for its emitted field. Results show the synchronization of the total output of both lasers and also the synchronized dynamics when modes are compared one by one. This work studies two regimes of operation, the low-frequency fluctuation regime and the coherence collapse regime. The effects of modifying the pumping current of both lasers are also examined. Anticipative and isochronous synchronization are analyzed from the point of view of the coupling between the lasers, observing how the results qualitatively match with the monomode case. Further work is being done in order to apply these results to data transmission.
