Abstract

The concept of Digital storytelling (DST) traditionally focuses on the use of digital media tools to produce and share a story based on a personal experience or memory. In recent years, DST has been brought into various contexts of education. This chapter reports on the experiences and reflections of student teachers of English using DST as a tool in their process of developing into digitally competent language teachers. The empirical point of departure for the chapter is linked to an annual workshop in digital storytelling for student teachers in English didactics for secondary school. The material consists of the participants’ reflection logs, where they share their experiences from the digital storytelling process, reflect on their product (the digital story), and consider the potential for using DST in their own future EAL (English as an additional language) classrooms. An overall preliminary finding indicates that the student teachers saw their participation in the DST workshop as a transformative and reflective learning process.
