Abstract

In the developing countries like India, to support and sustain any future growth, adequate road and rail infrastructure is required. Investment in infrastructure, use of multiple transportation modes to increase the supply chain efficiencies and green innovation in logistics are the solutions. This research study comprises the conceptual framework on the multimodal logistics practices to improve logistics performance, descriptive statistics of multimodal transportation using rail and road mode and a case study on Ford India's finished vehicle distribution using multimodal network. Research outcome reveals an increasing interest towards multimodal logistics in Indian automotive to improve logistics performance, transport attributes from framework aligned with key performance indicators from the case study.
