Abstract

The power quality problems such as voltage sag are a great concern to consumers, especially for industrial consumers. Most modern industrial equipment is quite sensitive to instantaneous voltage sags, so it is necessary to keep the power quality to guarantee the reliability of the production process. The Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) has been applied as one of the representative devices for compensating the voltage sags. This paper proposes a multiloop PR control based an integrated BESS-DVR, which is organized in the stationary reference frame, to mitigate the power quality problems such as the unbalanced voltage sag, deep voltage sag, and phase jump. The advantages of the proposed multiloop controller provide the rapid response to the disturbance on the grid to track the sinusoidal reference, while the configuration is simpler than the PI controller. In this paper, the design of the proposed controller is explained in detail, and the simulation results of comparative studies with the PI controller in the synchronous reference frame are described. The proposed model of an integrated BESS-DVR system and the control algorithm are validated by PSiM simulation under various voltage disturbances such as unbalanced and balanced voltage sag.
