Abstract

In this paper, we present the increasingly complex nature of language teaching in a multilingual world and discuss the implications for language teacher education programs. We then draw on the Douglas Fir Group framework to develop a roadmap for language teacher education and share our views on how research scholarships can provide the critical disciplinary knowledge foundation for language teacher education. We hope that the journal System remains a leading platform for disseminating crucial research that helps to prepare language teachers for the complex task of teaching in a multilingual world.
