Abstract

This chapter presents two main closely related sections, each instrumental to the other. The first one takes on an historical approach to the multiple and bidirectional links that inextricably tie international journalism and translation from the point of view of their evolution as well as their study. The second one addresses how the combination of different methods and theories in the fields of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), Corpus Linguistics (CL) and Translation Studies (TS) may bear fruitful results and advances within the analysis of news discourses and translation. Finally, I explain and discuss the convergence framework and how it can contribute to the analysis of the news in different languages and cultural contexts by combining theories within TS and Journalism Studies (in particular CDA approaches to these disciplines) and a powerful methodological framework such as CL.
