Abstract

NETWORKING - In a seemingly grandiose project, a team of Indian and U.S. computer scientists plan to place one million books on the Web through 2004. Dubbed the Universal Digital Library, and freely accessible by anyone, it was dreamed up by Raj Reddy and Michael Shamos of Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, who have been working toward melding various digital libraries, such as Project Gutenberg and JSTOR.
